Saving Sirens

Designing the cover for Saving Sirens was an exciting challenge: creating a visual that captures the essence of pirates and mysticism. I created this image by layering multiple designs over one another - it is a composite of images from the public domain and designs I created. If you look closely you can see small details on every corner, hidden enough to not be the center of attention and visible enough to be found.

Layers:

The design begins with a crumbled paper texture in a faded hue, mimicking an aged and weathered map.

On top of this I layered longitude and latitude lines to enhance the nautical theme.

I found via the public domain an old drawing of a starfish with fancy swirls that I felt would work for the theme at hand.

On top of the starfish is a compass, which stands out the most and is the easiest to identify.

The ocean is then layered on top, painted digitally through the Autodesk Sketchbook App on my tablet. It goes from a darker hue to a lighter variation.

The ships seen were old drawings found in the public domain. I took them into Autodesk Sketchbook and colored them to fit the color scheme that was chosen.

There are two layers of vignette that surround the background.

The title was hand-drawn in Autodesk Sketchbook. Inspired by two fonts I discovered during my research, I reimagined their elements to craft a mystical, pirate-themed style that compliments the cover's aesthetic.

Every element of this design was carefully chosen to immerse readers in the adventurous world of Saving Sirens, setting the stage for the story within.
